Holst - The Planets, I. Mars, the Bringer of War (Super Metroid Soundfont)
As requested by ClaytonValentin, here's a rendition of Mars, the Bringer of War with the Super Metroid soundfont.
Judging from how this turned out, this might be one of those ideas that's better in concept than execution, but I'll let you be the judge.
In "The Planets", Gustav Holst set about representing each of the planets, (except Earth and Pluto, the latter because it hadn't been discovered at the time) with a character piece, based not so much on the Roman gods they were named after but more on their relationships to the Zodiac.
Reportedly, Holst had a brief fascination with the horoscope and that resulted in the creation of a suite with seven movements, each of them wildly different in character.
This first movement depicts Mars, appropriately evoking a brutal, warlike feeling, accomplishing this right off the bat with an ominous opening, a memorable military rhythm that remains almost constant, and plenty of brass throughout.
Gustav Holst's orchestration is quite important in music history in how it helped shape the music style of quite a few modern composers, most notably the notorious movie composer, John Williams. Indeed, many parts of this music sound like something straight out of Star Wars.
Also, this particular movement of The Planets suite has been referenced quite frequently in popular culture.
A few places I can recall off the top of my head are the Airship Theme from Super Mario Bros. 3 and "Battlerock Galaxy" from Super Mario Galaxy. Both videogame tracks seem to have been heavily influenced by this piece.
There's also the track "Rebel Blockade Runner" from the very first Star Wars film, which features something very near to a quotation of 6:30 here.
