I was asked as an EMT to come up with a home made mask design for public on a social site. I worked on one all day and came up with this.

It's a cloth cover over, around a standard dust mask that has the metal top nose form bar and elastic ear loops.

I found closed cell foam 1/4 thick, the same that lines the nose area on the paper dust mask, and trimmed the sheets up as oval shaped inserts.

Then I used a neoprene ear water barrier protection band to make along the cheeks molded flaps. The cheek flaps also serve to hold the foam layers steady inside the face cup.

An extra wide elastic band was sewn to the neoprene cheek straps to make the mask tight to the head and face without ties or clasps at the back.

The whole thing is machine washable and the foam circle filter inserts can be replaced with custom cut new ones.

The extra foam filtering can be double thick with two ovals with the usual paper filter inside the cloth cover, or just single foam thick for better breathability with outdoor exercise as needed.

The elastic ear loops on the dust mask filter were left stapled in place and are being used to secure the foam insert(s) to the mask without sewing necessary.
