It was a challenge finding signs of spring in this holiday half snowstorm. But find the green, I did, and a whole flock of talkative red winged blackbirds to boot along Nine Mile Creek. My garden at home's patiently waiting for May, bits of strong green poking up undaunted through the snow. I am ready for next month's summer start, already.

The murmuration of red winged blackbirds drew me from half a mile away in an invitation to see them. Dozens all together, more than I have ever seen before sitting so close together in one spot. They were very loud and talking to each other. Perhaps it was the snowstorm, or perhaps these were all male, arriving far ahead of the female blackbirds yet to come to this marsh around Nine Mile Creek.

I was glad I found this very soft, quiet peace. Surrounding me these moments told me that spring was only waiting a short while before bursting out all over and into May.
