Honda Zero EV Series Launched: The Futuristic Saloon & Space Hub
Honda is set to revolutionize its electric vehicle (EV) lineup with the Honda Zero series, a global initiative focusing on a fresh perspective in EV design. The first model, the Saloon, is scheduled for a North American debut in 2026. The series emphasizes a "thin," "light," and "wise" philosophy, departing from conventional EV development with a streamlined, aerodynamic approach.
The Saloon, with a sloping fastback shape and unique rectangular lights, exudes a sporty aesthetic inspired by Formula 1 racing. Its minimalist interior features Tron-like lighting, a central display, and pixelated wheel covers. The Space-Hub, a boxier van-like concept, hints at potential use as an autonomous shuttle service.
Both the Saloon and Space-Hub are projected to offer partial and full autonomy based on Honda's Sensing platform, a Level 2 system enabling hands-free driving on expressways and surface streets from the mid-2020s. Technological advancements include e-Axles for optimal battery efficiency.
Honda's broader EV plan involves introducing 30 new models by 2030, with a target of 2 million units sold. While setbacks have occurred, such as canceling plans with General Motors, the Honda Zero series represents a bold step toward reshaping the narrative around EVs. The Saloon and Space-Hub aim to challenge norms with innovative design in the evolving landscape of electric mobility.
