Horizon Zero Dawn (HZD) - PC Gameplay Let’s Play Part 13: The Womb of the Mountain
The Womb of the Mountain:
The beginning of The Womb of the Mountain, a Main Quest in Horizon Zero Dawn, takes Aloy through the sacred mountain, which is normally off limits to all except the Matriarchs. You will learn why Teersa allows Aloy to enter, and discover a new foreboding threat once you emerge.
Recommended Level: 7
Rewards: 3500 XP, 1 Skill point, PSI Overrides
Aloy wakes up from The Proving confused, alone, and without clothes and equipment.
Search for your Equipment and Follow Teersa:
Most notably missing is Aloy’s Focus. Luckily, it’s not far. Follow the hallways to the next room and a cutscene will show Aloy finding her clothes and Focus. Now all that’s missing is her equipment, and the damaged Focus she found on the enemy leader.
Open the door to continue looking—there’s nothing else in this area to find. Through the next door, make a left to find Aloy’s equipment along with the damaged focus.
After looting the room, continue following Teersa through the sacred mountain. She takes you to the Great Chamber, where All-Mother slew the Metal Devil, and apparently where Aloy was found as a baby. Aloy recognizes the Goddess to actually be a door, and attempts to open it. However, the “Goddess” does not recognize Aloy, and thus does not open for her. Teersa encourages Aloy that it will open for her in the future, if she heals the corruption that clings to her (whatever that means).
They come to the conclusion that Aloy must leave the Nora sacred land and head to Meridian to confront Olin.
Continue following Teersa after the cutscene. While walking, she will reveal more of what happened while Aloy slept. A great War Party was sent after the killers, and less than half survived, devastated by the killers and the machines they corrupted.
Outside, the other High Matriarchs will meet with you and Teersa. They name you a Seeker, a worthy brave sent to accomplish a great purpose, so Aloy may come and go as she needs to. Aloy may even go Metal Ruins and other lands otherwise deemed off-limits to other Nora.
Now you must go to the gates and ask to leave, by your right as a Seeker.
Talk to Resh and Kill the “Demon” and Corrupted Machines:
On your way to Mother’s Heart’s gates, remember to pick up any supplies as you go if you need them. There are a few supply crates scattered about as well.
Approaching the gates, Resh and another Nora brave are on a platform above on the left. You can eavesdrop from below. If you leave, or start a conversation with Teb to the right, you won’t be able to listen in later.
If you talk to Teb, he will clue you in on the gossip around town, and why Resh is now War-Chief: Sona, the original chief, disappeared after the War Party massacre. He has other juicy information as well if you care to prod.
Climb up the ladder and confront Rest when you are ready. Be prepared and craft your arrows and shock wires, as a fight is coming… but not with Resh. A huge machine is running toward the gate, corrupting Striders as it goes. The braves call it the Demon, the same machine that devastated the War Party.
Once you jump down, you have very little time to prepare. Quickly set up Shock Wires with your Tripcaster to impede the machines once they’re in so you can take them out quickly with as little chaos as possible.
The Corrupter has a surprisingly long range and has the ability to hurl boulders and other projectiles at you. Also be aware of any fires the break out on the field, as standing in them will hurt you. Fire is hot.
Once you’ve defeated the machines, loot the Corrupter for something special: a piece of equipment that will let Aloy override machines and control them.
