This game is made by Toge Productions, they also made the visual novel Coffee Talk. Whisper Mountain Outbreak is a horor survival co-op game, the story is It’s 1998; a mining operation on Mt. Bisik inadvertently unleashed an ancient horror when they disturbed a ruin buried deep inside the mountain. People started hearing whispers and seeing monsters when a mysterious fog suddenly appeared and covered the area surrounding the mountain. Now, you and your friends are trapped in the cursed Mt. Bisik.
The game is simply that, you got into the map, you do the map objectives and get out, it's a simple survival horror game that you could play with your friends, you have to manage your ammo, equipment and items as you are only allowed to carry a few per person. There's no randomness to the missions so far in the demo, everything is where it needs to be, it's not randomized from what I've played thus far. If you've done the mission before, everything should be where it is, the only difference might be the solution to the puzzles, that's about it.
Here are my thoughts on the game:
Pros:
- The overall visual is interesting with a feel to something like an old school Resident Evil game.
- SOME of the monster designs are cool and freaky but most of them is basic and not scary at all.
- The atmosphere is built beautifully, really makes the game feel spooky.
- Gameplay is pretty solid, do mission, do puzzles, get hit by zombie hordes.
- Inventory management is a huge plus, makes the game harder and makes you really think on what to carry with you for the mission.
Cons:
- Basic mobs ruin the scare factor but not looking scary.
- The camera controls are bad, the 2.5D camera just doesn't work for me.
- There is very limited choices in weapons, and you'll most likely use whatever ammo you can find during the mission
- The missions are linear and not random, you can speed-run the missions once you know where everything is the 1st time around.
All in all I think the game itself is fun to play, it's a pretty cool survival horror game that you can play with friends and you won't need like a high-end rig to play it and it's pretty basic looking.
Whisper Mountain Outbreak is fun.
