Beyazid The Thunderbolt was a powerful Ottoman sultan who ruled from 1389 to 1402. He expanded his empire in both Europe and Asia, defeating the Crusaders, the Byzantines, and the Anatolian Turkmen states. He was known for his military prowess and his ambition to unify the Muslim world under his authority. He was called Yıldırım, meaning the thunderbolt, because of his swift and decisive attacks on his enemies. He was eventually captured and died in captivity by the Mongol conqueror Timur, who challenged his supremacy in Anatolia.
