Can the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 run games at 120FPS with ray tracing enabled, at a native 4K? And for the games where this is just too much of a lofty goal, can we leverage DLSS and DSR to get better visual quality and performance? And in titles which aren't so demanding, such as Resident Evil 8, can we push even higher resolutions?
The RTX 4090 was left at stock for our test, latest nvidia drivers at time of launch. Games (including Cyberpunk, Spiderman, Control, Dead Space, Metro Exodus and Forza) were running their latest patched versions, with no mods (including 'default' DLSS versions with that patch version).
Benchmarking footage was captured using another PC so as not to impact performance and tests were a combo of manual runs and of course, built in benchmarks. All titles were tested with the highest quality settings in the menu, with only the ray tracing settings, resolutions and of course DLSS adjusted as needed.
The RTX 4090 control panel options were left at their defaults, with the exception of DSR factors which was enabled.
Nvidia RTX 4090, 13900K, Strix Z690, 32GB RAM, W11, 850W Corsair PSU and everything plonked onto SSDs.
