We borrowed Harry Alisavakis' awesome Unity tornado VFX and imagined how it could sound like in our sound design group. We had 1hr to come up with a cool sound for this clip.

The Sound Design Challenge is our place to set aside daily sound work, experiment with new techniques, new plugins, new source material, and try out crazy ideas. It is our safe space to experiment and fail (or succeed!) without consequence.

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?
βœ… We learn a lot about how sound works in the context of games. It allows us to design better sound in our own productions.

βœ… By forcing us into a timed slot of ~1 hour, we don't fiddle around endlessly. We try something out, we submit it, we move on to the next thing.

βœ… It's our weekly training! Sound Design is a skill you can train and improve πŸš€ Good writers read a lot of books to broaden their horizon. We design sounds to realize an idea and see where it leads us and listen to other people's sound designs to broaden our sonic horizon.

βœ… No matter the outcome, we learn a ton! We learn new tricks in our DAWs, we get inspired by other peoples ideas how to process sounds creatively, we get faster at the work we do, we learn to come up with ideas on the spot and run with it, we learn to abandon ideas.

βœ… Besides, networking and meeting new people with complementary creative ideas gives our hangouts this extra level of spice 🀩
