How I Approach Precision Platformers
1If you find games like I Wanna Be the Guy and 1001 Spikes (the game featured in this video) daunting, hopefully this helps you figure out how to get into the headspace needed for playing them. You need to be patient and calm, and not worry about throwing away a life just to test something. You need to approach it as you would a puzzle, and consider the whole room/level as a unit--a puzzle, if you will--rather than playing reactionary as you would with most other action games. These games tend to be very deterministic and you'll do much better doing what works consistently so that you have a setup, so you won't be heartbroken when you die just before the end. And obstacle isn't truly overcome until you've figured out a way to get past it consistently.
Of course this is easier said than done when it comes to throwing your 500th attempt at horrendous shit like Boshy's "Good Level Design" room (just google it), or pretty much any room from IWKTK3
Anyways 1001 spikes is fantastic aside from all the bugs, and I highly recommend it if you'll give it the time of day.
