How I Evaluate New Champions... A Rough Guide - Marvel Contest of Champions
Damage: is the damage good enough to be used in aq/aw. if the damage is low, evaluate utility, and practicality of the utility accordingly
Next level damage: Is the damage absurd to the point that it becomes a selling metric?
evaluate practicality:
is it quest long rampup like aegon, in which case is it practical for use in abyss/LOL
is it every fight rampup like silver surfer
in which case, is the payoff worth it?
is it heavily synergy reliant:IE every added needed synergy removes value from aq, aw, abyss of legends, and end game content
node reliant: How niche or common is the node
skill reliant: quake, ghost are amazing champions but if player poorly someone is better off using doom, warlock etc
depth of utility: end game content is heavily centered on utility. damage is nice but if its only damage, then the champion already has very limited use cases. skill to reward ratio.
burst vs persistent damage: Namor has insane damage, but because it comes in a burst rotation that often results in longer fights, well timed play etc, he gets overshadowed by faster simpler rotation champions. how the damage is accessed affects practicality of use.
Sig level: Amazing champions often go unused due to sig level. see namor
Mastery reliant:
omega red is a prime example, but also deep wounds or mystic dispersion. sym supreme with and without mystic dispersion is very different.
time:maybe the damage is really good, but it is very time consuming IE lots of sp3's. sometimes this is worth the utility/damage combo. but its a minor aspect worth noting
evaluate survivability
block proficiency, we've seen how poor BP drastically lowered the value of cull's
regeneration:
this can be a selling point in itself especially if its accessible. see claire, angela lovers, G2099 for aq
Sustain:
does the champion have an alternative method of sustain, ie quake, ghost, corvus, captain marvel movie
evaluate utility
immunities: are they conditional, is it a resistance. some resistances like silver surfer offer the potential for increased value over time.
Power control: how controlling is it, these days doom and magik are the main metrics. while power control can still be good eithout being as dominant as these 2, these 2 represent power control at competitive levels
slow/unstoppable removal:
accessibility and duration are key. whats important here is "uptime"as in what%of time is the slow/unstoppable removal accessed. the ideal being 100%
ability accuracy reduction:
if we aint talking 100's dont talk to me
Buff prevention:
accessibility... sp2 only nullify, or heavy place staggers are common and decent. but significantly less valuable that sp1 nullifys/on hit or repear access. see claire, sym, doom
heal reversal:
is it reliant on petrify? Looking at you deadpool in abyss
niche lockdown/targeted counter
Medusa, torch, red mags. sometimes completely shutting an opponent down provides a very limited best in slot. and that can still be worth
AW defense value:
what tags, any potential for annoying defense ie unblockable, unstoppable, high surviveability, unavoidable damage, difficult specials.
evaluate superficialities
aesthetic: how do they look
lore: is it a popular, or well known character or even a niche but beloved character?
Animations: how do they look
