How I Learned to Love Civilization VI
26Hey hey folks, and welcome to my critique of Civilization VI (Civ 6). I had no idea how I was going to approach talking about Civ 6. In other games, reaching the end credits is more than enough information and insight to be able to discuss it, but 4x games don’t work that way. There are so many mechanics that one needs to learn the nuances of, that even after 100 hours of play, you can still feel like you don’t understand what’s going on. My solution was to play 3 full games of Civ 6 and then use those experiences to inform my discussion.
What ended up happening is that in the middle of my second game, I started to love Civ 6. I became excited to learn more about how all the systems of the game interact with each other, and how a player can use that knowledge to their advantage. After my 3 games were finished, I continued playing Civ 6, and I’m still enjoying myself and learning about how to be a better player to this day. I haven’t been this excited and obsessed about a game in years.
In this video, I’ll walk you through my first 3 games, explaining some of the systems as I was learning about them, before moving into why I started to have such fun during game 2, and why I think Civ 6 continues to engage me all these weeks later, and likely will for the foreseeable future.
