0In The Last of Us Part II, Joel is killed by a character named Abby. Early in the game, Joel and his brother Tommy rescue Abby from a horde of infected, not knowing who she really is. They bring her back to a lodge where Abby’s group is hiding. Once inside, Abby reveals that she knows who Joel is — he had killed her father, a Firefly surgeon, at the end of The Last of Us Part I to save Ellie. Seeking revenge, Abby brutally beats Joel with a golf club while Ellie is forced to watch, unable to save him. Joel’s death is shocking, sudden, and extremely emotional, setting off the main events of Part II, as Ellie vows to hunt Abby down.
