If there’s one game that truly immerses you in the brutal, unforgiving world of medieval life, it’s Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. This sequel takes you on an unforgettable journey through the heart of Eastern Europe, where intense battles, tactical combat, and expansive landscapes await those brave enough to take it on. But what really sets this game apart is how it allows you to live the story, rather than just follow it.

After more than 60 hours in this world, I can confidently say that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is criminally underrated. It’s earned its spot as one of the year’s finest RPGs—not just because it draws comparisons to the legendary The Witcher 3, but because it delivers a completely unique experience all its own.

The original Kingdom Come: Deliverance (2018) had to contend with a stacked year, with heavy-hitters like God of War, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Marvel’s Spider-Man dominating the spotlight. But that doesn’t mean the first game was without merit. It still stood out for its authentic medieval world and deep RPG elements, which are only amplified in the sequel.

The Return of Henry: Rebuilding a Life from the Ashes
Now, seven years later, we return to the world of Kingdom Come and follow Henry, the protagonist who has lost everything. His journey is one of survival, rebuilding, and discovery. If you haven’t played the original, Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a true action RPG—featuring a massive, open world, diverse side missions, and a gripping storyline. And this sequel takes those elements to a whole new level.

From the outset, the game establishes itself as more than just a quest for vengeance. Henry’s quest is shaped by his struggle to regain stability in a broken world, and this narrative provides the perfect backdrop for the game’s rich mechanics, including survival elements. You’ll need to manage basic necessities like sleep, food, and cleanliness, and neglecting these will have real consequences. The attention to detail here is staggering, making every moment feel grounded in the harsh realities of medieval life.

Refining the Combat: Tactical, Strategic, and Satisfying
Combat was one of the first game’s standout features—albeit with a steep learning curve. While it was praised for its unique and realistic mechanics, the complexity of the combat system was a barrier for many players. In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, however, the developers have streamlined the combat without sacrificing its strategic depth. Now, with only three or four distinct attack points per weapon, you’ll find it easier to understand, but just as challenging to master. Combat is no longer a chaotic struggle—it’s a tactical dance that requires precision, timing, and a deep understanding of your weapon’s strengths.

Whether you're wielding a sword, halberd, or axe, every weapon feels distinct and comes with its own tactical approach. For ranged combat, bows, crossbows, and even bombarda—an early gunpowder weapon—add variety and excitement to the battle. Personally, I found the crossbow to be my weapon of choice. Initially, combat is brutal, and Henry is far from a skilled warrior, but as you progress and learn from the NPCs, you’ll start to feel the system’s full potential. Mastering new combat techniques as you level up transforms the battles from overwhelming to exhilarating.

What really stands out in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is how it has improved fighting multiple enemies. In the first game, battling more than one opponent could feel frustrating and nearly impossible, especially for new players. But now, taking on several foes at once is thrilling. It still requires strategy—especially in managing your stamina—but the experience is far more fluid and enjoyable.
