Kaiou Retsu (烈 海王, Retsu Kaiō; Chinese pinyin: Liè Hǎiwáng) is a fictional character in the Baki the Grappler anime and manga series. He was a very accomplished fighter of Chinese Kenpo and a friend of Katsumi Orochi. He sometimes fights with dirty tactics, such as using his hair to blind his opponent, setting them on fire with alcohol, or using his shirt to throw dirt as projectiles. At first, he was an antagonist in the series, but later became one of the main characters.
Joe Cruiser (ジョー・クレーザー, Jō Kurēzā) is a very strong boxer. His nickname "Smoking" means his fighting style is very fast and agile like a smoke. Although Retsu is able to see all of his blows and dodge some of them, his barrage of attacks all hit him. However, he managed to land many blows on Kaiou Retsu and nearly defeated him with a K.O., but Retsu managed to get up and won the fight.
His stamina is also high. As a boxing champion, is able to last 15 rounds of 3 minutes against people as strong as him.
The character is based on the real-life American professional boxer, Joe Frazier.
