How Limiting My Game Collection Increased My Happiness
100Back in March, thanks to inspiration 100% lifted from @TheCarpetbagger and his Year of the Carousel/Pressed Penny/etc. - I decided that this would be the Summer of Sega. For a long time, I'd been burnt out on collecting - I simply put wasn't having any fun with the hobby any more. I still loved playing games, but the thought of going out to a convention or a store to go game hunting filled me with consternation - I was all over the place, and my collection was suffering because of it.
So this year, at the Midwest Gaming Classic (and thanks to @GameDadShow and @Hey_Its_Thor gifting me a GORGEOUS Sega Game Gear) I decided that this year, I would be celebrating the Summer of Sega! A six month (summer is long, ya'll) adventure where my main collecting focus would only be on Sega products!
And man...has it ever been rewarding. I've found so much happiness and joy in just...not feeling like I HAD to own everything, that collecting became really, really goddamn fun for me again.
