In this video, Mahalo expert Keltie Colleen shows you how to make an angel Christmas tree topper.

Rather than purchasing a store bought decoration, you can personalize your
Christmas tree by making a homemade angel tree topper. Making holiday decorations with your family is a great way to save money and spend time together preparing for the holiday. Christmas trees are traditionally topped with an angelic figure. This project can be easily crafted using supplies that you may already have, allowing you to save money for other holiday spending.

The tradition of decorating trees for Christmas can be traced back to the 16th century. During this time trees were decorated with fruit and sweets. In the 1800s the tradition had become more prevalent and trees could be found decorated with toys or candies. In
Japan, trees may be found decorated with paper lanterns and small fans. The Danish tradition is to place flags, snowflakes or hearts on the tree. Spiders and webs are used to decorate a Ukrainian tree. http://www.theholidayspot.com/christmas/history/xmas_tree.htm

5. Marker

6. Glitter glue

7. Paper plate

Wrapping paper

Step 2: Cut Out the Angel
---------------------------------------------------------------------

The first thing you will need to do is draw and cut out the stencil for the tree topper. Take the paper plate and turn it upside down. Begin along the edge and draw two lines for the top of the wings and the head. The draw two lines to represent the bottom of the wings. Cut out the head and wings. Cut a slit on the lines that signify the bottom edge of the wings. Fold the wings around and use a glue gun to fasten it. Step 3: Decorate the Angel
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Now that you have your angel figure, you will need to dress it up before placing it on top of the tree. Cut a few strips from your wrapping paper. On the bottom of the angel figure, apply glue and distribute it using the paint brush. You can then begin placing the paper strips along the bottom of the angel. Next, lay the angel on the wrapping paper and trace the head and wings. After cutting the outline from the paper, apply glue to the wings of the angel figure and place the paper on top of it. You can then apply glitter glue to create a halo or other decorative accents.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJTOSCtbOE0
