How My Grandparents Turned Me Into A Gamer (Special NES and Intellivison)
I have been working on a very personal video for some time regarding my nostalgia for the original Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) console, and it was an emotional rollercoaster. I received it at a dark time in my life and it helped me out of it. It will always be bound to my grandparents and parents in my mind.
The NES was my stress relief through my pre-teen days and I have kept mine in (largely) the same condition for all of these years. It has been a great introduction to the early games for my children and it still works well.
Green screens with a blinking light are not accepted here.
My grandmother was my first gaming buddy. We played Intellivision together, and BurgerTime is my fondest memory of us playing, but we played Night Stalker, Shark Shark! and Astrosmash as well. We had an Intellivision, but my grandparents had one at their house too. My grandmother would play Intellivision while waiting for her laundry. My parents said that she played at night too, but I have little recollection of that.
Both of my grandparents have been gone for some time, but they will never be forgotten. My parents are now approximately at the age of when my grandfather died. I'm approximately the age of my parents when he died. I find it strange how time has put us in those positions.
I am fairly monotone throughout the video and I had to take many breaks in order to be able to speak.
The video production was pushed into high gear when I saw a video from Smash JT talking about the pointless nature of retro games and collecting them; even referring to the "retro gaming fad." I see retro games as a link to the past and I collect them to this day.
The video is personal to me but I wanted to make it and I wanted to share it.
I will never sell my old games (now). I made that mistake when I was young; not the NES itself, but some of the games. I will continue to go video gaming hunting and find more retro game treasures. Of course, none will be the same as those given to me following the death of my grandfather.
Thank you for watching. :)
