This video shows you a very simple trick to activate hands-free Siri on your Mac. Siri is one of the coolest features that MacOS Sierra has to offer. With this hands-free Siri activation, it makes it even cooler.

Script....

If you are an Apple Fan and you own an iPhone, you may also like Siri because Siri is quite useful in a lot of cases. For example, I can use it to play music, to set up a reminder, to wake me up at a very specific time and a lot more. With the new MacOS Sierra that Apple has just introduced to Mac users, Siri is also brought to Mac World which means you can use Siri to control your Mac like you do on your iPhone. However, you have to physically click on the Siri logo or use a shortcut key to activate it. You can’t use your voice to activate Siri just like you do on your iPhone. You can activate Siri and command it to do a specific task for example opening an app or ask about the weather. And if you go to Siri Settings, you can see that you can activate Siri with a keyboard shortcut key.

However, those are physical clicks. Sometimes you want to activate Siri without the need to touch your Mac just like do you always do to your iPhone 6s or iPhone 7. With the trick that I am about to show you, you can use your Voice ‘Hey Siri’ to activate Siri on your Mac. So without further ado, let’s get started.

There are two things you have to do to make this trick work. First, you go to System Preferences, click on Keyboard, click on Dictation , click On and don’t forget to tick “Use Enhanced Dictation”. Then it will start downloading a dictation file of 1.2GB so that you can use it offline. Because I have already downloaded it, that’s why it doesn’t show the download box. But if it is your first time turning on Use Enhanced Dictation feature, it will show you the downloading box.

The second thing you have to do is navigate back to Accessibility, then look for Dictation on the left. Here you need to tick “Enable the Dictation keyword phrase”. You need to type in the command that will activate the dictation. Because you want to activate Siri by saying “Hey Siri”. So, you need to type “Hey” here. But you can type your preferred word here. Then you click on Dictation Commands. Next, you need to tick “ Enable Advanced Commands” . Then you click the plus sign to add a new command to it. In the Box “When I say” here, type “Siri”. Again you can type your preferred word here. For the “Perform”, you choose “Open Finder Items”. Now you look for Siri App in Application Folder. Now click Done.
