Adding a black screen in CapCut on PC is a useful editing technique, whether you're creating dramatic pauses, transitions, or placeholders within a video. This is often done by leaving an empty gap or manually inserting a black background between clips or photos.

To begin, open CapCut and load your video or photo project onto the timeline. If you want the black screen to appear in the middle, first split the clip at the desired point. You can do this by selecting the clip and clicking the "Split" tool. Now that you have two segments, you’ll need to add an empty space between them.

By default, CapCut uses auto snapping, which makes it difficult to create gaps. To disable snapping, look to the top right corner of the timeline panel. Click on the blue icon labeled “Turn off main track magnet.” This will prevent the clips from automatically snapping together, allowing you to drag one segment to the side and create a visible gap.

Once the space is made, CapCut will render that section as a black screen during playback. If you want more control or a guaranteed solid black fill, you can also go to the “Library” or “Stock” section, insert a black image or black color clip, and drag it into the timeline between your two clips.

To re-enable auto snapping later, simply click the magnet icon again.
