How to Adjust Sound Volume on Phone with Audio Mixer (Android Tutorial)
On a standard Android phone, the concept of a built-in "Audio Mixer" that lets you adjust the volume for every individual app simultaneously (like the Volume Mixer on Windows PCs) does not exist natively on most stock Android versions.
However, many manufacturers, most notably Samsung, have added this functionality. For all other phones, you can still control the different types of volume or use a third-party app for per-app control.
Here is the complete guide for both scenarios:
Method 1: The Standard Android Volume Mixer (Volume Types)
All Android phones have a default volume menu that acts as a mixer for different audio streams.
Press a Volume Button: Press either the Volume Up or Volume Down button on the side of your phone. A volume slider will appear on the screen.
Expand the Menu: Look for an icon at the bottom of the slider. This is often:
Three vertical dots (⋮)
A downward-pointing arrow (▼)
A gear/settings icon (⚙ )
If you don't see an icon, you might have to press the volume button again or go to Settings (Step 3).
Access Full Volume Sliders: Tapping the icon will expand the menu to show individual sliders for the main volume types:
Media Volume: Controls music, videos, games, and audio from most apps.
Ring Volume: Controls the volume of incoming calls.
Notification Volume: Controls the volume for texts, alerts, and other app notifications. (On some phones, Ring and Notification are combined.)
Alarm Volume: Controls the volume of the Clock/Alarm app.
Call Volume: Controls the volume of the person you are talking to during an active phone call.
