How to Silence Phone but Still Get Messages & Calls from Contacts on Android Phone (Do Not Disturb)

Step 1: Turn ON Do Not Disturb
Swipe down from the top of your screen to open the Quick Settings panel.
Tap the Do Not Disturb icon (often a circle with a dash or a moon) to turn it on.
For the next steps, you will need to open the full DND settings. Tap and hold the Do Not Disturb icon, or go to: Settings → Notifications (or Sound & vibration) → Do Not Disturb.
Step 2: Configure Contact Exceptions (The "People" Settings)
In the Do Not Disturb settings menu, look for a section called Exceptions, People, or What can interrupt Do Not Disturb.
A. Set up Contacts for Calls
Tap People → Calls (or Allow calls).

Select your preferred option (Starred contacts only is best for a small group).

Step 3: "Star" Your Important Contacts
For the "Starred contacts only" option to work, you must mark the desired individuals in your phone's contact app:
Open your Contacts app.
Find the person you want to allow.
Tap on their name, then look for the Star icon (or Add to Favorites).
Tap the Star icon to make them a Starred Contact (or Favorite).
