Fix Hard Drive Errors using Disk Check and System File Checker.

1. Use SFC /SCANNOW Command

The sfc scannow option is one of the several specific switches available in the sfc command, the Command Prompt command used to run System File Checker.

While there are plenty of different things you can do with the command, sfc /scannow is the most common way that the sfc command is used.

Sfc /scannow will inspect all of the important Windows files on your computer, including Windows DLL files. If System File Checker finds an issue with any of these protected files, it will replace it.

Follow these steps for using sfc with the scannow option to repair important Windows files:

2. Use CHKDSK

Check Disk or chkdsk is used to see if a hard drive has any file system errors and bad sectors on it, and attempts to repair them if found.

You should periodically use the Check Disk tool to check the integrity of disks. Check Disk examines disks and can correct many types of common errors on FAT16, FAT32, and NTFS drives. One of the ways Check Disk locates errors is by comparing the vol¬ume bitmap with the disk sectors assigned to files in the file system. Check Disk can’t repair corrupted data within files that appear to be structurally intact, however. You can run Check Disk from the command line or through a graphical interface.

This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops, and tablets running the Windows 10, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 7 operating systems.Works for all major computer manufactures (Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba, Lenovo, Samsung).
