Here's one way to avoid overworking your colors in particular!
Sometimes when mixing, one may end up with grays and browns, and lose th vibrancy of the colors.

A possible solution is to completely avoid mixing on the pallete, and instead allowing the paints to mix directly on paper.

I find I love the look of paint as it naturally mixes by proximity, rather than on my palette.
