How to Beat Karnos: With Donovan, Vehrn, and Zach
This is a response to the Karnos Battle Guide video.
I used Donovan, Vehrn, and Zach, all of whom were claimed by the maker of the aforementioned video to be not as helpful. If you look closely at their levels, they're not that ridiculously high-leveled either. If you want to learn how I did it without having to wait for the video to load, a separate guide follows:
Preparing specifically for the battle is important. I tried different approaches, as you can see from the kind of equipment I had on my characters. In this approach that worked, Zach had the Yin and Yang equipped. This is his best weapon. Not only does this have 46 damage points, but this also allows him a maximum of 70% evasion, which is useful for surviving Karnos' reactions to Zach's attacks.
I put light resistance armor on both Mardek and Vehrn. This is because Karnos does not change elements often unless attacked with magic. In this battle, Karnos stayed light throughout the fight. This means that Mardek's Morality Block is the only null spell you need.
Donovan's role is to continuously STR boost Zach, to give his attacks more potency. This is not so much to make it more doable as it is to make it FASTER to do. Zach can take out Karnos by himself, but the STR boosts make this an easier job for the mercenary.
Vehrn's role is providing everyone boosts, and giving Karnos a Rainbow Juice. The Rainbow Juice gives Karnos a null of 8 elements, each of which counting as a status effect. He also has a Power Juice in the video, which he used on Zach, again to make the battle quicker. He also has Remedies, Potions, Healthy Juices, and Ethers you can use when you need it. After that, you don't even need him anymore. You can just skip the rest of his turns, and it won't affect the battle.
Zach is the entire offence of the team. With Karnos having Haste and 8 Nulls, Coup de Grace is going to be DEADLY. With a few STR boosts, each attack of his would deal 9999 damage, which is the limit in MARDEK 3. Karnos reacts to physical attacks with Dark Claw, Blood Claw, or Bisection. The first two are nulled by Morality Block. The other WILL damage Zach... IF it beats the 70% probability of missing, that is.
After the battle, I saved the game on a different slot, so I can beat Karnos again with a different combination.
Thanks to Pseudolonewolf for the game, music, and colour scheme.
