I have seen some TNT cannon videos on youtube and many are not fully automatic as you need to put redstone dust on the dispenser at the last moment or your cannon will explode.

This method is the real automatic cannon that uses redstone comparator to make the blinking of red stone & repeater to delay the top TNT dispenser.

This way you can have a fully automatic TNT shower with just a lever to activate....and watch the destruction!
