In Nancy Drew: The Secret of Shadow Ranch, Nancy needs to build a campfire in the fire pit outside. Start by getting two sheets of newspaper located by the fireplace in the den. Then go outside and collect kindling (small sticks). You can find 5 sets of these sticks here:

To the right of the chicken coop door, turn immediately around to see a set by the wagon in the center of the yard, to the left of the house door (when facing to go in), at the end of the vegetable row, to the right of the red pump house.

Next, split the logs. Match your standing position to where the log is set on the block, then angle your hammer to the direction that the wedge is angled.

Remember to pick up the red fire bucket by the fire pit and fill it with water from the pump house.

Build your fire with the newspaper, then the sticks, and end with the logs. You’ll know it’s correct when Shorty steps outside and lets you know.
