How to Calm that Voice in your Head - In meditation , it is often believed, that the point is to stop thinking, quiet or calm the voice in your head.
It isn't. In fact, you can't stop it. Any more then you can stop the wind or the waves. Thought is a function of life. Then what is this elusive quiet mind they talk about?
Lose interest in it. The way in zen, advaita vedanta and all nondual meditation is to cease giving it any credence. Once you realize that what the mind says is not true, based on false assumptions and repetitive, you simply don't pay it any attention. It is you lack of attention that robs it of its authority, influence and energy. With no energy, like an unplugged fan, it simply slows to a stop.
