Hi. I'm Max Dalton, and in this video I'm going to talk through how to change your Twitter username.
Your Twitter username is one of the first items people will see associated with your account. It can inspire people to look further into your account and see who you are and maybe even follow you, it can be offensive and drive people away from you, or it can be boring and result in people scrolling on past you. If you're no longer in love with your Twitter handle and want to change it, you can do so quickly and at no cost through your profile settings. This video walks you through how to change your Twitter username through both the Twitter app for smart devices, and the Twitter website.
Steps to Change Twitter Username on iPhone or Android Device
1. Launch the Twitter app and log in to your account.
2. Tap the icon associated with your profile that appears in the upper left corner of your home screen. A menu screen appears.
3. Select "Settings and Privacy." The Settings and Privacy screen appears.
4. Tap "Account" in the list of choices that appears beneath your current Twitter username. The Account screen appears.
5. Select "Username" in the Login and Security section. The Change Username screen appears, displaying your current Twitter username beneath Current.
6. Tap "Username" in the New section. A cursor appears over the Username text, and a keyboard flys up from the bottom of your screen.
7. Enter the new username you want to use for your Twitter account. If the new username you enter is already taken, a message in red text will appear on the screen, telling you that you can't claim that username. Alternatively, if the new username you enter is available, your username will remain in blue and a check mark icon will appear to the right of your new username.
8. Tap the blue "Done" button in the upper right corner of the Change Username dialog box. Your username has been successfully changed.
Steps to Change Twitter Username on Computer
1. Open your Web browser, navigate to www.twitter.com, and then log in to your account. You'll arrive at your Twitter home screen.
2. Click the name of your profile in the upper left corner of the screen. The profile screen for your Twitter account appears.
3. Click the icon associated with your profile that appears in the upper left corner of your home screen. A menu screen appears.
4. Select "Settings and Privacy." The Account screen appears.
5. Highlight your current username in the Username field, and then enter the username you want to switch to. If the username you enter is available, the word "Available" appears in green letters directly above the Username field.
6. Enter the new username you want to use for your Twitter account. If the new username you enter is already taken, a message in red text will appear on the screen, telling you that you can't claim that username. Alternatively, if the new username you enter is available, your username will remain in blue and a check mark icon will appear to the right of your new username. Alternatively, if the username you entered is taken, you'll see "Username has already been taken" in red text above the Username field.
7. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click the blue "Save Changes" button after entering an available username to change to. Your username will automatically be changed and automatically reflected on your account after clicking Save Changes.
