Hi. I'm Max Dalton, and in this video I'm going to talk through how to connect an Xbox One controller to a PC.
One of the hardest and frustrating parts of playing Xbox One games on your Windows PC can be connecting your Xbox controller. You can connect your Xbox One controller to your computer using a specific type of Micro-USB cable. Additionally, after you connect your Xbox remote to your computer, you can also take advantage of the free Xbox Accessories app offered by Microsoft to easily re-map your controller configuration, make sure your controller's firmware is up to date, test the health of your controller, and more. This video walks you through how to connect your Xbox One controller to your Windows PC, and how to use the Xbox Accessories app.
And now, the steps to connect your Xbox One controller to a PC.
Step 1. Connect a Micro-USB cable to your computer. You cannot use any old Micro-USB cable, but you have to use one that can transmit data. If you use a Micro-USB cable that's built to only charge a device, your Xbox One controller won't be recognized by your computer.
Step 2. Connect your Xbox One controller to your Micro-USB cable. The connector for the Micro-USB cable is on the top part of the back of your controller. A message will likely appear informing you that your computer is being updated to support your device.
Step 3. You can verify that your controller is recognized by your computer by clicking the "Windows" icon in the lower left corner of your screen to launch the Start menu, and then scrolling down the Start menu and clicking "Settings." The Windows Settings screen appears.
Step 4. Click "Devices." The Devices screen appears.
Step 5. Select "Bluetooth & Other Devices" on the left side of the screen. You'll see "Controller" listed beneath Other Devices on the screen, indicating that your Xbox One controller is recognized and capable of being used by your Windows computer.
