What is going on everyone? Leon checkin in and we are at it again with another video!
In today’s video we are going to talk about how to check for a system update on Android.
WHY CHECK FOR A SYSTEM UPDATE?
So the question is “why check for a system update?”
After all, your device might be working fine. Why change it?
System updates can make your Android device more exciting and improve functionality.
Arguably, more important though, they can make your device more secure.
A system update is generally easy to do and usually completes in 5 minutes or less.
The tricky part can be finding the update option if this is your first time or if you haven't done it in a while.
FIRST!
First things first. Before checking for an update, make sure you’re on WiFi.
Updates can be done on a mobile network, but they can be large in size.
PULL DOWN THE NOTIFICATION SHADE ONCE
To start this tutorial, we will pull down from the top of the screen once.
This brings up your phone’s Notification Shade and Settings Dock.
PULL DOWN THE NOTIFICATION SHADE AGAIN
Pulling down on the notification shade again expands the Settings Dock.
LOOK FOR THE GEAR ICON
We’ll then look for the gear icon. This is your phone’s General Settings. Click on this.
NAVIGATE TO SYSTEM
This brings up the General Settings menu for your device.
Scroll down to “System” and click on this.
ADVANCED
This brings up the “System Settings.”
At the bottom of this list is the “Advanced” option. Click on this.
SYSTEM UPDATE
This expands the System Settings page.
Look for “System Update” at the bottom of the list.
You can see mine has a footnote about my Android Version.
This can be a helpful feature if you want to know if your device is compatible with software or hardware devices or if troubleshooting with tech support.
We can click on System Update to find out more information.
CHECKING FOR UPDATE
This brings up the System Update page. Your device may check for an update automatically.
It may be necessary to manually check for an update if your system hasn’t done so for an extended period of time.
If you would like to manually check for an update you can click on “check for update.”
SYSTEM UPDATE AVAILABLE
If an update is available, a page will appear showing the available update and all its features.
Simply click “Download & install” to start the update.
The system will guide you through the process.
YOUR SYSTEM IS UP TO DATE
If your system is up to date a page will appear notifying you of this status. There is nothing else to do.
