Video Transcript:
Being able to send an email to a large group of people simply by entering the group name rather than each individual email address can be a real time saver. While Apple doesn't make it easy to create email groups on the iPhone or iPad, it is possible using the Contacts app.
Now let's walk through the steps to create an email group on your iPhone or iPad.
Step 1. Open the Contacts app on your iPhone or iPad, and then tap the "+" icon to create a new contact. The New Contact screen appears.
Step 2. Type a name for your email group in the Company field, and leave the First Name and Last Name fields blank.
Step 3. Scroll down to the Notes field, and then enter the email addresses you want to include in your iPhone or iPad email group distribution list. The email addresses should be separated by a comma, similar to what I'm showing on the screen.
Step 4. Hold your finger against any of the email addresses you just entered in the Notes field to open a menu, and then choose to copy all of those email addresses.
Step 5. Scroll back up the screen to the Email field, and then paste the email addresses you just copied into any of the email fields. Tap "Done" to save and create your new contact group.
Now, anytime you want to send an email to your newly created email group on your iPhone or iPad, you just have to open the contacts app, tap the contact associated with your email group, and then tap "Mail" at the top of that group's information screen. A new email message screen will be displayed, and the individual email addresses associated with your email distribution list will automatically be populated in the To field. Please note that while you can open a new email message, type the name of your email group contact in the To field, and select that group to populate its name in the To field, you'll get an Invalid Address message when you try to send that message. You can still move forward with sending your email and there's a good chance it still gets to all of your intended recipients, but there is the risk that it doesn't.
