This tutorial teaches you how to create realistic looking water for your Minecraft Animations in Cinema 4D for specifically rivers and lakes.

Oceans and water simulations will be in another tutorial.

The method for making realistic water is very basic and simple, it involves creating a basic water material in Cinema 4D without Fresnel and displacement to save time on rendering.

The first step is to find the water material generated by Mineways, creating your own material will lead to problems so make sure you find the one that's automatically generated.

Then, turn off the alpha and color channels as water has no color and we'll be using transparency to control the alpha.

Enable the transparency channel and make sure the brightness is at 100%, then also change the refraction index to that of water.

Also enable the Fog channel and set a dark blue color.

Rendering like this already gives you a much better and realistic looking result.

The final channel is Bump, enable that and create a turbulence noise map for its texture. Tweek it's global scale and bump strength to create a not so flat water surface in the case of a river and lake.

You may also want to animate this noise texture and that's very easily done just by tweeking the movement options.
