The ability to share your mobile internet connection with your laptop, known as as tethering, is built into OS 3.0 but depending on the restrictions by your carrier you may not be able to use tethering or may have to pay outrageous prices to tether. This educational video, which I cannot answer questions for nor suggest doing, gives you the information needed to enable and use tethering on your iPhone 3G or 3GS. This may break your contract agreement and could get you in trouble with your carrier so use this information as your own risk.
