How To FIX N64 Dr Mario! Mini Classics! Double Edged Sword of Frame Buffer Issues Not FTW!:)
0Why does Dr Mario have horrifying graphical glitches with every N64 Core? Well, let's dig into that:) And, we will FIX it! This method will also help fix a handful of other games! But, DON'T try using it for ALL Games!!! That would be Bad, Hmm'Kay:)
There are various reasons why issues occur with any given Nintendo 64 or even Playstation 1, and so on...games, emulation wise. Part of it is due to the limitations of whichever hardware is involved, graphics library, lack thereof hardware acceleration, etc. Dynamic Recompiler is absolutely necessary to run games in Cores that have it as a code base feature. BUT, in games like Night Raid, per one of my my last videos, having Dynamic Recompiler ON, actually destroys the graphics!
In any case, what I show in this video should ONLY be used sparingly. If you attempt to save it to the Core, and use it for all games, you will very quickly regret it, as 99.5 percent of games will run worse with it on! ONLY a handful of games need it, as far as the Mini Classics are concerned. Majora's Mask, so you can see the "cutscenes", Dr Mario to clean up the "virus" looking glitches, and Pokemon Stadium 1 AND 2, as well as at least ONE of the WWE Wrestling Games. If any of you know games that for sure have graphic glitches, feel free to let me know in the comments. I will potentially do an "Accuracy" build of Mupen Xtreme for the Next Update, which will have frame buffers and other needed components always active!
But, you get an idea, now, of the constant mod struggles we must face when contending with platforms. I will cover more videos like this, showing where things get broken, and how to fix them, as need be!
