How To Fix PS4 Error CE-33984-7 (Cannot Obtain IP Address)
Check PlayStation Network Status:
Before troubleshooting, ensure that PlayStation Network (PSN) is up and running. Check the official PlayStation Network Service Status page for any ongoing outages or maintenance.
Restart Your PS4 and Network Equipment:
Turn off your PS4.
Unplug the power cables from your modem and router.
Wait for about 5 minutes.
Plug the modem and router back in and wait for them to fully restart.
Turn on your PS4 and test the network connection.
Check Wired/Wireless Connection:
If using a wired connection, make sure the Ethernet cable is securely connected to both the PS4 and the router/modem.
If using a wireless connection, ensure that the PS4 is within range of the router and there are no significant obstacles interfering with the signal.
Update Firmware and Games:
Make sure your PS4's firmware is up to date. Check for updates in "Settings" - "System Software Update."
Ensure that any game you're trying to access is also updated to its latest version.
Check DNS Settings:
Go to "Settings" - "Network" - "Set Up Internet Connection."
Choose your connection method and select "Custom."
When you reach the "DNS Settings," choose "Manual" and set the Primary DNS to 8.8.8.8 and the Secondary DNS to 8.8.4.4 (Google's public DNS servers).
Complete the setup process and test the connection again.
Check MTU Settings:
During the "Set Up Internet Connection" process, select "Custom."
When you reach the "MTU Settings," choose "Manual."
Try setting the MTU value to 1473 or lower and test the connection.
Check Firewalls and Ports:
Make sure your router's firewall settings are not blocking the PS4's connection.
If possible, enable UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) on your router to allow the PS4 to open necessary ports automatically.
Contact Your ISP:
If the issue persists, it might be related to your internet service provider. Contact them to check if there are any issues on their end.
Restore Default Settings (Last Resort):
If other methods fail, you can try restoring your PS4's network settings to default:
Go to "Settings" - "Initialization" - "Restore Default Settings."
