How to Fix the Sound & Microphone Not Working in COD Black Ops 6 on Windows PC
If the sound or microphone isn’t working in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on your Windows PC, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:
1. Check Sound & Microphone Settings in Windows
Right-click on the speaker icon in the taskbar and select "Sounds".
Go to the Playback tab, find your output device (e.g., headphones or speakers), right-click it, and select "Set as Default Device".
In the Recording tab, ensure your microphone is set as the default device. Right-click it, select Properties, and check the Levels tab to ensure the volume is turned up.
2. Adjust In-Game Audio Settings
Go to Settings - Audio in Black Ops 6.
Ensure the Master Volume and Voice Chat Volume are set appropriately.
Under Voice Chat settings, ensure your microphone is selected as the input device.
3. Update Audio Drivers
Open Device Manager (right-click the Start button - Device Manager).
Expand the Sound, video, and game controllers section, right-click your audio device, and select Update Driver.
Choose Search automatically for drivers. Restart your PC if any updates are installed.
4. Check Game Permissions for Microphone
Go to Settings - Privacy & Security - Microphone.
Make sure microphone access is turned on and that Call of Duty has permission to use it.
5. Close Background Applications
Programs like Discord, Zoom, or NVIDIA ShadowPlay may conflict with Black Ops 6’s microphone settings. Close these programs to free up the audio channels.
6. Check Windows Audio Troubleshooter
Go to Settings - System - Troubleshoot - Other Troubleshooters.
Run the Playing Audio troubleshooter and the Recording Audio troubleshooter to identify and fix sound issues.
7. Verify Game Files (Steam or Battle.net)
For Steam: Go to your library - right-click Black Ops 6 -Properties - Local Files - Verify Integrity of Game Files.
For Battle.net: Click the gear icon next to the play button - Scan and Repair.
8. Reinstall or Roll Back Audio Drivers
If nothing else works, try reinstalling or rolling back your audio drivers:
Open Device Manager - Sound, video, and game controllers.
Right-click your audio device and select Uninstall Device. Restart your computer to reinstall it.
Alternatively, choose Properties - Driver tab - Roll Back Driver if the problem started after a recent update.
