In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to fix the "UNEXPECTED KERNEL MODE TRAP" error in Windows 11 & Windows 10. This error can prevent Windows from booting properly and is commonly caused by hardware issues, driver conflicts, or corrupted system files.
The 0x0000007F error, also known as the "UNEXPECTED KERNEL MODE TRAP," is triggered by kernel mode issues, often caused by hardware failure, particularly faulty or mismatched memory. However, it can also result from incompatible drivers or software. While Windows 10 users have reported encountering this error, it’s often linked to hardware issues or problematic drivers rather than the operating system itself.
If this issue appeared after upgrading to Windows 10, it’s likely due to an incompatible driver. In some cases, dust on component connectors can also cause this error, so cleaning them may help. If you're unsure how to proceed, it’s advisable to seek expert help, especially if your computer is still under warranty.
Common causes include faulty drivers (such as wdf01000.sys, win32kfull.sys, and others), overclocking, security software (like AVG, Avast, McAfee), RAM problems, or even issues after a Windows update. If the error started after an update, uninstalling the problematic update could resolve it. Virtualization software like VirtualBox or VMWare can also trigger this error. This issue usually results in a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD), but it can be fixed by addressing the underlying causes.
This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops, and tablets running the Windows 11 & Windows 10 operating system (Home, Professional, Enterprise, Education) from all supported hardware manufactures, like Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba,Lenovo, and Samsung).
