(HOW TO FIX) Upgrade Desktop Graphics Card in Dell XPS 8700 Black Screen Troubleshooting
I wanted to upgrade the graphics card in my brand new Dell XPS 8700, and got a black screen without even the BIOS screen popping up!
- Windows 8.1
- NVIDIA GeForce GT 720 to a VisionTek ATI AMD 7750 (for my 6 monitor fun setup: https://youtu.be/CbbUjLknJlA)
It worked in my old system fine, and I even switched the PSU from my old computer into the new one. What a pain in the ass! I updated the BIOS. I transferred all my files to my new SSD, etc.
Then I did some researching online, and discovered that this is a well documented issue: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3515/t/19601491
Fucking dell and their money grab, purposely disabling graphics cards that aren't officially "supported" is bull shit.
HOW TO FIX IT:
- Put in graphics card that came with system and works
- At boot up press F2 until BIOS comes up
- Go to the third tab, "BOOT"
- Set "Secure Boot" to "[Disabled]"
THAT'S IT! I hope it works for you!
I think another option I heard if it doesn't is to disable UEFI in the same "BOOT" tab, and install Windows 7!!! HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA.
But yeah, you can see from my video, my Samsung 850 EVO 250GB boots like a mother fucker (like 30 seconds). Faster than my smart phone! LOL.
I got the SSD for $97.99 on Amazon: http://amzn.to/1HBuew0
