When it comes to my last statement, the "Unit x and y statement" only works both are the same class, but one is slightly better, so as long as they are still serviceable and are mounted. They can still operate even when ones slightly better. You do not need one of every class
Another thing to help fix you're units stats is to give them battalions, battalions and gambits can helps ensure your units utility in either support or offense. It also helps units defense, res, mag, str, hit, avoid and more. Battalions give a lot of good stat buffs that shouldn't be overlooked, and some gambits late game can be downright broken if used correctly.
