Throes of the Watchmaker is a completely free DLC for Sea of Stars if you own the base game. The DLC adds an additional ten hours of meaningful content. New realm to explore with many new locations to visit, new abilities to learn to help you battle new enemies, new story and new mechanics.
The good news is that if you want to jump in on the conversation you can as Throes of the watchmaker allows you to jump right in from a new game as it's a standalone adventure within the universe.
