Apple makes it possible to invert screen colors on your iPhone or iPad. The feature is an accessibility option designed for individuals who are sensitive to brightness or who suffer from color blindness. Additionally, because there isn't a true dark mode feature available on the iPhone or iPad, you can activate the Smart Invert option to get an experience very similar to a dark theme. There are two options for inverting iPhone or iPad colors, and this video will walk you through how to turn on both, and show you what they look like.
And now, let's walk through the steps to invert the colors on your iPhone or iPad.
Step 1. Tap to launch the "Settings" app on your iPhone or iPad. The Settings screen is displayed.
Step 2. Choose "General" in the list of options. The General screen appears.
Step 3. Select "Accessibility." The Accessibility screen appears.
Step 4. Tap "Display Accommodations." The Display Accommodations screen opens.
Step 5. Choose "Invert Colors." The Invert Colors screen is displayed. You'll see two options for inverting colors: Smart Invert and Classic Invert.
Step 6. Tap the toggle to the right of Smart Invert to turn it on. The screen background will switch to black, and the text will switch to white. Smart Invert reverses the colors on your display, but does not invert colors for photos, videos, or other media, or apps that already use a darker theme. This is the best option if you're looking to apply a dark mode or dark theme to your iPhone or iPad.
Step 7. Alternatively, you can tap the toggle to the right of Classic Invert to turn it on. This feature reverses the colors you see on your display, regardless of where they appear. For example, any pictures and videos you view on your device will have inverted colors. Additionally, even if an app already features a darker theme, the colors in the app will be inverted.
You can return to the Invert Colors screen at any time to toggle off the any color inversion option you have enabled.
Congratulations! You now know how to invert screen colors on your iPhone or iPad. Additionally, you now know to use Smart Invert if you're looking to active dark mode on your iPhone or iPad.
