On the Ps5, go to SETTINGS, choose SAVED DATA and GAME / APP SETTINGS, you will see an allocated option for PS5 save data and Ps4 Saved Data.

For this video, we are doing the cloud saves. I already uploaded my game saves to my account and they are ready to be downloaded into the Ps5.

What are cloud saves? These game saves are uploaded into your PSN account's cloud or digital storage for safe keeping. This feature is only for PlayStation PLUS members, unfortunately.

If you don't want to pay extra to have a digital storage, there is also the physical storage option. So if you have a ps4, copy your game saves to a thumb drive then put in the Ps5.

The only condition here is that the USB thumb drive must be formatted to be compatible with the Ps5 when it loads your save files. So be careful with anything that is inside that thumb drive before inserting it into the ps5.

Downloading is finished and as you can see, my ps4 games save files from the cloud are now copied to the ps5.

I got Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition for the Ps4 and we shall try the save files by playing the game in the Ps5.

The Ps5 that I am using is the Nov 12, 2020 launch model and by default it is not readily backwards compatible with Ps4 games.

You need to do a software system update for that to happen and the changes are permanent, even if you format the ps5 to it's factory settings. Hopefully the next wave of Ps5 consoles will not be subjected to this update.

Anyways, whatever Ps4 game you will try - just let the Ps5 install the system data from the Ps4 game. The size depends on the game of course.

Now aside from the system data installation, the ps5 must download the update file of that ps4 game so that certain features will be functional with the ps5. you must be online to get the update file.

You can choose to skip the update file but most likely you will not be able to load the save files without completing BOTH the system data installation AND the update file.

Keep in mind that regardless of the save files, 90% of the Ps4 gaming library can be played by the ps5. However, there are some compatibility issues that can potentially make each game not fully functional with a few features that the ps5 cannot emulate compared to the ps4 console.

once the installing and updating are done, My Tales of Vesperia save files are now ready to be recognized by the ps5.
