How to make a Canadian flag cake (for Canada Day) -with yoyomax12
Make a Canada Day cake that has a Canadian flag in each slice.
Canada Day is July 1st when Canada will be 146 years old.
Another Canada Day idea, the Canada Day cupcake:

I have seen ideas for this "cake shape inside a cake" in a variety of places, but I think that I may be the first to try it with a Canadian flag.
No the red cake doesn't burn or overcook in the cake, quite cool actually.
This cake is far from perfect but it is a fun technique that I will try to perfect for other occasions :)
As a side note I was a Centennial baby and always know how old Canada is by adding 100 to my age :)
How to make the cake:
I decided to use the same cake recipe as I use to make the minecraft blocks in my minecraft cake video. But you should be able to use any white cake recipe to make this. The trick is to find a cake that you can cut out relatively fine shapes without it crumbling completely.
Combine one white cake mix with the following ingredients:
1 small size (4 serving) package of vanilla pudding mix powder
4 egg whites
1/2 cup water
1/3 + 2 tbsp vegetable oil
1 cup sour cream
8oz package cream cheese softened
Enough red food colour to get a red batter
The batter will be thick and doesn't self level well, so spread it out evenly into a greased 9x13" pan
Bake the cake in a 9x13" pan at 350F for about 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Allow to cool completely.
Cut out some maple leaf shapes using a cookie cutter or by using a paper template.
The size will depend on the size of your pan, I used an average sized loaf pan.
I cut out four maple leaf shapes.
Measure and cut out two rectangle shapes that will fit in on the ends for the red bars of the flag.
There will be leftover cake for cakepops!
Make a second white cake mix according to package directions and pour about 1 cup of the batter into the bottom of a greased loaf pan.
Gently insert the red bar pieces and line up the stacked maple leaves in the center and cover completely with more white cake mix batter.
Bake until the uncooked batter is done. Mine took about 50 minutes at 350F. I suggest covering the cake with tinfoil once it is very brown to try to keep it from darkening too much.
Allow to cool completely and remove from pan. Frost as desired and slice :)
