In this video, Mahalo cooking expert Stacey Hicks shows you how to make a lattice pie crust.
What You'll Need
---------------------------------------------------------------------
* Pie crust, homemade or ready to bake
* Cutting surface large enough for the pie crust when rolled out
* Paring knife
* Ruler, another straight edge or a lattice pie cutter
* Fruit pie with bottom crust and filling already in place
1. Roll the crust out as if you were making a standard top crust.
2. Using the straight edge and paring knife, cut the top crust into straight strips 1/2-3/4 inch wide.
3. Lay the strips on the filled pie, either weaving them in and out or laying them on top of each other. You can twist the strips into spirals before laying them on the pie.
4. After you've laid all the strips on the pie, trim the edges of the strips so that they line up with edge of the pie.
5. Fold the bottom crust up over the edge and crimp to seal the bottom crust and the lattice edges.
6. Bake as directed by your pie recipe.
