About this video: If you want to know how to make a SMP Minecraft server, you are in the right place. This video is our complete, in-depth guide on how to make a Minecraft survival multiplayer server. This will allow you to easily play survival Minecraft with your friends on a private server. We also link out to where you can create a public SMP server if you want a public server.
The first step of creating a SMP server in Minecraft is downloading Paper. Paper is the best Minecraft server software out there. It will allow you to get plugins on your SMP server if you want them. Otherwise, if you want a vanilla survival multiplayer server, Paper will optimize your server making it lag free and easier to host.
You can find the download link for Paper in the description above. Once you are there, scroll down and click the yellow ‘Download Paper’ button. This will take you to the official download page for Paper. Click the download button on the newest version on the page. You will have to keep or save the file depending on your browser.
After you have the Paper.jar downloaded, create a new folder and add the Paper file to it. Rename the paper file to ‘Paper.jar’. Create a new text document by right clicking in the folder, and selecting ‘New’ and ‘Text Document’. Open the text document and copy the code from the description above into. Then, click File, Save As, and name the file run.bat. Make sure the save type is all files and save the file. Now, you will have a run.bat file. Double click on this file and your server will try to start.
However, you need to agree to the Minecraft EULA to officially start your SMP Minecraft server. Do this by opening the EULA.txt file and changing EULA=false to EULA=true. Save the EULA.txt, and double click the run.bat again.
You now know how to make a survival multiplayer Minecraft server. You can join this server using the IP address ‘localhost’. However, for your friends to join, you will need to port forward the port 25565 on the TCP and UDP protocol.
We show how to do this in the video. Then, your friends will join via your public IP address.
Nevertheless, that is how to make an SMP server in Minecraft. If you have any questions about how to start a survival multiplayer Minecraft server, let us know in the comments.
