Ever wonder how book designers make those beautiful custom dropcaps at the beginning of chapters in hardbacks and trade paperbacks? I show how you can create special drop caps that utilize black silhouettes to give your section headings that extra pop. I use basic images and a free vector program called inkscape and demonstrate by creating a special glyph drop cap for my upcoming fantasy novel, Water of Awakening.
