Katsudon is traditionally consumed by Japanese students the night prior to their entrance exams as the word "katsu" sounds very close to the phrase "to win". For me, a Japanese restaurant that can't prepare Katsudon properly cannot be called such. Just my thoughts though.

Pork Chop/ Cutlet
Salt

Eggs (for breading and for incorporating in broth)
