How to make "puppy bread" buns - with yoyomax12
Original idea found here:

You could also do this with refrigerated biscuits too.
Use whatever bread recipe you like, try to find a "pouffy" type of bread recipe
Bread recipe:
Recipe:
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 1/2 tbsp white granulated sugar
1 cup milk
1 egg yolk
3/4 tbsp salt
1 1/2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened (I used salted butter, not enough salt to make a difference)
2 1/4 tsp instant active dry yeast (1 envelope)
Mix milk and egg yolk together in a large bowl and place in microwave for 40 seconds until mixture feels very warm to the touch.
Add butter and blend
Add sugar, salt and yeast and mix together.
Blend in one cup of flour with a spoon or whisk.
Blend in second cup of flour with spoon, dough will pull away from sides, add a bit more flour until dough starts to come together. Knead into dough ball in bowl and then invert onto countertop and knead for at least 5-7 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic (adding a little bit of flour to countertop if sticking) You may not need the entire three cups of flour.
Let rest covered for 15 minutes.
Cut dough into 8-10 portions and roll into ball shapes. Place on greased (or silicone mat) lined cookie sheet and cover with greased plastic wrap. Let rest 15 more minutes.
Take each dough ball, form it into a oval and make to small cuts on the end of each oval to make an ear.
Cover the cut dough ovals with greased plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1-2 hours depending on the temperature).
After bread has risen press three black beans (from a can) into the dough to make eyes and nose.
Bake at 375F for about 15-20 minutes until buns are golden brown.
Cool completely before slicing.
NOTE ****
I normally let the dough rise once until double, punch it down, form a loaf and let that rise until doubled and then I bake.
I skipped the first full rising (only let it sit for 30 minutes total time) and I think my bread was a bit too dense as a result.
After thinking about this I suggest you put the kneaded dough ball into a covered bowl, let rise until doubled and then punch down the dough. Then form the dough into dough balls and cut the ears and let rise a second time.
