Part of the script:
In smash bros there are many character to be played and to be chosen. Most are very different with the exception of some clones that are very similar. One of the hardest choices in smash bros is trying to find your main and stick to him.her

now for the first thing, choose a character that you enjoy playing. you will usually find who you like to play after just trying out every character out a decent amount. Try the high and low tier characters and play who you really like. if you play someone you like then you will be able to stay with that character a lot longer then if you choose someone that you did not like at all.

Now lets say you have quite a bit of characters that you like playing, for example, robin, luigi, mario, bowser, and shulk. Now you have a general idea of who you like but you must go further. One thing that i do is i look at previous games i had played and choose characters that are close to the same playstyle as them. For example if you play someone like mario in 64 or melee you will probbably want a combo character, but if you choose someone like gannon, you will most likely want a power character. Now this rule doesnt apply 100% of the time, you may want to play a completetly different type of character, but usually this rule will help you find someone to start playing or find the general playstyle you like.

In addition you can use other games experineces to see what type of playstyle you do in those games. if you play a game like league of legends and play very defensive then you will probbably want a more defensive character and vis versa. All games can be applied to this. Now if you really dont want to use the playstyle that you do in other games then you must simply look at characters that dont play that style. Play all of them and see who you have a lot of fun with. Im my experience i just pick who i love playing.

now lets say you want to pick a high tier character. This could range from diddy kong to rosalina, two very different characters. in order to choose you will most likely want to again pick someone close to your playstyle. Next you must practice them and see if you legitimately enjoy then or if you just enjoy winning with your better character. do not play a better character if you do not enjoy them at all. you may win more, but you will not have as much fun (unless your only goal is to win in that case do as you want and play the op characters).

picking a high tier can be difficult, if you hate when others play your main do not pick a high tier character, you wil see an enourmous amount of players of this person online and in person. I know a lot of people hate using people that thier friends main so keep this in mind. Now if you pick a high tier also be prepared for some backlash. As seen in the 2014 apex zero picked diddy kong, the whole stream and online was very angry when a diddy won and that is just what you must accept, especially if your high tier character is hated. But if you do enjoy that person just ignore thoose that hate on you and keep playing who you love.
